Periodontal Care
Periodontal disease is the bacterial infection of the gums and the bone that if not treated, can cause you to lose your teeth. Medical research is now showing that these bacteria in your mouth can also travel through your blood stream into other organs in the body.
Maintenance is an important dental treatment for halting the progression of periodontal disease. Periodontal disease and gingivitis occur when bacteria from plaque colonize on the gingival (gum) tissue, either above or below the gum line.
Good news is that it can often be treated successfully. The first nonsurgical step usually involves special cleaning, called “scaling and root planning”, to remove plaque and tartar deposits on the tooth and root surfaces. Thus helping you’re gum tissue to heal and periodontal pockets to shrink.
